Mechanic Killed in Accident at Volvo Construction Equipment
Officials the man was killed when a front-end wheel loader he had been working away at slipped over support stands and fell on him.
A worker who was simply killed if a bit of heavy equipment fell on him for a Volvo-owned company in San Leandro this morning was obviously a 48-year-old Castro Valley man, a situation workplace safety official said.
The incident was reported at 9:31 a.m. at Volvo construction equipments and Services at 1944 Marina Blvd., fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
California Department of Occupational Safety and Health spokesman Peter Melton said the man, a field service technician, was working with a front-end wheel loader that were lifted up onto support stands when the equipment slipped and fell onto him.
Fire crews arrived and located the victim crushed under the equipment. He was pronounced dead for the scene, Knowles said.
Firefighters assisted personnel from the Alameda County coroner’s bureau in taking out the body, Knowles said. Crews used an analog hoist to lift kit, she said.
In accordance with Cal/OSHA records, the business has not yet previously been cited for just about any safety violations, Melton said.
Few others injuries were reported in association with the accident.
The coroner’s bureau has never yet released the worker’s name.
