Three cranes dismantled whilst foundations checked and strengthened
It is often reported with the Essex Chronicle that three tower crane for the former Anglia Ruskin university site were dismantled after heavy rain threatened to dislodge their foundations.
Genesis Housing Association and Denne Construction are believed to have scaled back work on the site where 500 homes can be built
A spokeswoman for Genesis Housing Association said:
The cranes were inside the statutory safety limits always and there wasn’t any danger on the public and the development.
Its well-known that there are water under the development site and for that reason this didnt come as a complete surprise plus it wasnt a major issue. We took down the tower crane purely as a precautionary measure and to allow us to investigate and repair the matter.
Neil Gulliver, cabinet member for planning and economic development at Chelmsford City Council, said:
Im concerned about the delay because obviously theres the necessary social housing on the website. The longer it takes the longer folk have to attend being rehoused.
